↠ residency ↞
If you are wishing to stay at Edenhope Nature Preserve for more than four months & become a member of the community, here is what you need to know.
volunteering ↠ residency
↠ All long-term residents start off as volunteers for the first four months of their visit, as all short-term visitors to Vanuatu are allowed to stay in the country for less than 120 days.
↠ On completion of your initial visitor’s visa, we offer the opportunity to become a permanent resident of Vanuatu and a full-time member of the Edenhope community.
↠ Before considering this option, please read all the information on Volunteering Page. Then let us know if you are interested in the Residency program when you reach out on the contact page.
↞ residency visas ↠
We endorse the application for permanent residency of Vanuatu for any community members wishing to be part of the Edenhope project beyond the initial 4-month visit.
This will grant you special status in Vanuatu for the long-term under a special agreement that we have made with Vanuatu Immigration Services. A few things to keep in mind are:
Residents are expected to pay their own annual residency renewal fee
In order to become a resident after the four months of your initial visa, you will need to leave the country and come back again
Visa runs can be made to nearby countries as Fiji, Australia or other Pacific nations
↞ finances ↠
Edenhope Nature Preserve runs on a service-based economy, meaning that we provide all meals, accommodation for visitors and residents in exchange for community participation and work on our ecovillage.
However, except in special circumstances that we take on a case-by-case basis, we expect anyone coming to stay here in the long-term will have enough savings to cover:
Immigration and visa requirements
Personal travel within Vanuatu and abroad
Medical and dental services (including health insurance)
To meet personal expenses, residents of Edenhope Nature Preserve may work online for around 10 hours per week, as long as their paid work does not interfere with community participation and active service to our projects on the land.
There is also the opportunity to contribute to paid events we are running at the ecovillage, such as events and workshops, that will provide financial support for residents’ livelihoods.
↞ accommodation ↠
We offer private accommodation to residents in the ecovillage. Our bungalows are spacious and well-appointed, constructed from cob and local timbers. Long-term residents are also invited to construct their own dwelling from local materials as a community project.
We supply our residents with linens, towels and we make our own soap on the premises. Kitchen facilities and hot showers are communal, and we do our own laundry in a shared facility.
